We’re women. And we like Doctor Who.

Hello, World! Welcome to our blog! Here we will discuss Doctor Who as seen through the eyes of a scientist and a writer—-and as fangirls.

A number of years ago, if you’d looked on Ye Olde Internet, any blogging or forum posting about the show was mainly male dominated. These days, however, that is no longer the case. It seems to be a fairly even split anymore and thank goodness for it! And, no, we’re not here to gush about how we fancy the Doctor.

Though we won’t deny that that may occasionally happen.

No. This is a place for (hopefully) intelligent discussion. For debate. And for banter and arguing, probably. There will also probably be cocktails involved, because reasons. This is blog is what happens when old friends get together with strong drinks and stronger opinions. And we hope you’ll join the conversation!

Who We Are:

Erin

Hi! I’m Erin. I teach physics and astronomy classes at a community college. I call myself an “everything nerd” because I just love learning. In college I did a double major in physics and music, and then got my Master’s degree in physics. Since I can take classes for free at the school where I teach, I am slowly working my way toward an accounting degree for….fun? I really like doing taxes. See? Nerd.

I recently married my husband James, who is another physics/music nerd. He has seen just about every episode of Doctor Who. Also Star Trek, which he’s convinced me to watch as well. He might contribute science-y things to the blog on occasion.

I started watching Doctor Who in the summer of 2008 (the last David Tennant series before the specials.) I have not seen a whole lot of Classic Who yet, so that’s going to be my goal for this blog.

Most of my free time is spent knitting. My top 3 favorite things to knit are: shawls I never wear, socks I never wear, and toys for other people’s children. I am definitely a process knitter, not a product knitter. I also made the famous (infamous?) 4th Doctor scarf for Kate to wear at Comic Con.

Kate

Hello, I’m Kate. I’m just your garden variety standard nerd, which is really not as impressive as Erin’s “everything nerd”. I did my degrees in English and Music then decided I had zero interest in teaching, so I’m currently going to school to become an IT Consultant, which is what I wish I had done in the first place. See? Also a nerd.

I’m also mother to a 6-year-old daughter, Ava (nicknamed “Ace”), who is currently in fangirl training. She enjoys a bit of Doctor Who, and prefers Big Finish audios because she can listen on long car journeys. Her all-time favorite monsters are the Sea Devils, though she’d also quite like a pet cybermat. Her favorite Doctors are Patrick Troughton, Paul McGann, and Matt Smith, but I’ve no doubt that Jodie Whittaker will soon win her over.

My love of Doctor Who is pretty much all encompassing, but if pressed, I prefer the Classic series over the New, especially the Troughton and Pertwee eras because that’s where I started way back when. I’m also a fan of Big Finish and I have loads of recommendations — my favorite probably being ‘Spare Parts’ by Marc Platt, which gives the Mondasian (read: proper) Cybermen a good origin story. I write more about Doctor Who (and other things) at Salt, Pepper, or Cyanide?
